Katy PerryKaty Perry was denied permission to perform on the Brooklyn Bridge in New York.

The 28-year-old singer is closing the MTV Video Music Awards tonight and was forced to come up with a new plan for her debut performance of her new single "Roar" after city officials refused to approve a permit to allow her to take over the iconic landmark.

"She was supposed to perform on top of the Brooklyn Bridge but the city wouldn't give her the permit," a source said. Katy, whose new single sold 557,000 digital downloads in its first week of release, has now agreed to sing underneath the bridge instead.

Other performers at tonight's ceremony will include Lady Gaga, who will open the show, Miley Cyrus, Robin Thicke, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, as well as Justin Timberlake, who will perform his new track "Take Back The Night" as well as a medley of *NSYNC hits with his old bandmates.

NSYNCJoey Fatone's father has confirmed an *NSync reunion.

The group - which also included Justin Timberlake, Lance Bass, JC Chasez and Chris Kirkpatrick - are set to reunite at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday to celebrate Justin being presented with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award for his contributions to the music industry.

"They're doing a performance. I think it's exciting. I couldn't even say why he's doing it though. Why, at this point in his life. Now he's his own man. But it's more to the fact that MTV has made them all somewhat of stars, and also made Justin a star," Joseph Fatone Sr. told RadarOnline. However, Joseph admitted he doesn't know the exact details, adding, "I don't even know what has gone into this performance... I plead the fifth. I would suggest that you tell all your readers and everyone on the Internet, all your social media, tell them to watch!"

GotyeGotye is having trouble finishing his new album.

The singer-songwriter has begun work on the follow-up to his successful 2011 album Making Mirrors - which included the worldwide mega hit "Somebody That I Used to Know" - but has hit a "hurdle" and says it could be a while before fans hear the results.

Gotye - real name Wally De Backer - told website FasterLouder.com.au, "I've started a bunch of ideas that I really like, but I just seem to have hit a bit of a hump in terms of how I'm connecting that with moving them forward into finished pieces or into songs. When I think about it, it's quite similar to the experience I had in previous years trying to make records: there are always certain bigger hurdles you hit, and you wonder whether you're actually getting anywhere, but maybe you do actually have a lot of stuff under your belt. Very broadly that's where I'm at, I'm just working away."

EminemEminem wants to surprise fans with his new album.

Slaughterhouse members Royce Da 5' 9'' and Joell Ortiz - who are signed to the rapper's own Shady Records label - believe the "Not Afraid" hitmaker is deliberately keeping quiet about his upcoming eighth album because he doesn't want to give anything away until he's completed the final edit.

"Em's whole thing is the element of surprise. That's how it's always been with him," Royce said.

"He gets in to his own world. I too am like him in a way. I like to go in to my cave and get the meat and potatoes of my album done before I venture out because I've gotta figure out the sound. So I'm sure that's probably what he's doing," Joel added.

The 40-year-old superstar has yet to announce a release date or a title for the hotly-anticipated record, but photographs of him in the recording studio with comedian Chris Rock and rappers Big Sean and Kendrick Lamar have surfaced.

Lady GagaLady Gaga only feels truly alive when she's on stage.

The singer - who is set to give her first live rendition of her new single "Applause" from her album ARTPOP at the MTV Video Music Awards in New York City this Sunday - finds meaning to her existence when is performing: "When I'm not on stage I don't feel alive. But when I hit the stage it's like everything that I'm thinking and feeling, where I belong - that's where it is."

But the eccentric star doesn't think she is different from anyone else, because most people have creative energy they want to release. "I don't think I am different from anybody else. I think everyone with their location and their job and what they do, their passion, feel the same way I do. It's sort of like we are endlessly obsessing about what we are creating and then the explosion is the moment where we get to share," she explained.

The pop genius was forced to take time out after hip surgery to correct a tear and breakage inside the joint in February and consequently cancelled the remaining dates on her Born This Way Ball, and now she is very excited about getting back to work.

The country-inspired track is called "Who You Love" and is a soulful mid-tempo number, according to Rolling Stone magazine.

John has also teamed up with Frank Ocean for his new LP on a short and poetic song entitled "Wildfire." He previously featured on the hip-hop star's track "Pyramids."

Jay'Z's 'Magna Carta... Holy Grail'Jay Z didn't pay to exhibit his new album artwork in Salisbury Cathedral. The "Picasso Baby" rapper choose Salisbury Cathedral in Wiltshire for the global reveal of the artwork for his new album Magna Carta ... Holy Grail because the religious building holds part of the original 787-year-old historical Magna Carta document.

The hip-hop star's black-and-white artwork went on display next to four pages from the original 1215 Magna Carta - a 63-clause charter setting out the origins of English democracy - and although he didn't pay for the stunt, it is rumored he will perform a private show for the Dean of the Cathedral, June Osbourne. "I hope he does play [a show for us]! That would make my children's year. And mine too!" she told NME.
